Who doesn’t love a hot toddy? This version gains a lovely flavor and aroma from toasted sesame oil, used in place of butter. We have also traded in the typical cinnamon, which can often be overpowering, for ginger and star anise.

    Ingredients:

    • 3/4 cup apple juice
    • 1/2 tsp. honey
    • 1/4-inch piece fresh ginger
    • 1 star anise pod

    • 1/4 cup brandy

    • 1/2 lemon

    • 1/4 tsp. toasted sesame oil

    Directions:

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the apple juice, honey, ginger and star anise. Bring to a simmer and stir to combine. Remove from the heat. Add the brandy and squeeze in the juice from the lemon half.

Strain the apple juice mixture into a heatproof mug, reserving the star anise. Garnish with the star anise and drizzle the sesame oil on top. Serve immediately. Serves 1.
