Today, Saturday, independent MP Yasser Watut revealed the existence of a parliamentary movement aimed at obliging the government to take urgent measures regarding desertification in Iraq.
Watout said in a statement that "there is a parliamentary movement being carried out by representatives from different blocs and governorates, aiming for the Parliament to issue a package of binding decisions for the government regarding combating desertification in Iraq."
And he indicated that "the competent government agencies do not have any significant action in combating desertification, especially since this desertification is increasing day by day."
He stressed that "this matter has serious repercussions in the near and far future, and dust storms are the most prominent causes of the high rate of desertification in Iraq, according to specialists."
