    [rtl]Baghdad - Iraq Today:

The Iraqi Minister of Agriculture, Abbas Al-Maliki, stressed the need for the British government to abolish all restrictions that hinder the entry of its country’s companies to invest in Iraq.

The Ministry of Agriculture stated in a press statement that the first official meeting between Minister Abbas Al-Maliki and the British Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Lord Dominic Johnson, was held in the British capital, London, under the slogan “Strengthening agricultural partnerships between Iraq and Britain,” in the presence of the British Prime Minister’s envoy to Iraq, Baroness Emma Nicholson, And Chairman of the Smart Agriculture Authority of the Iraqi-British Business Council, Ahmed Salman.

During the meeting, ways to enhance British investments in the Iraqi agricultural sector were discussed and how to facilitate the entry of British companies into the Iraqi market within the framework of expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.

Lord Johnson stressed the importance of the partnership between Iraq and Britain and the promising opportunities that smart and sustainable agriculture can provide in Iraq.

For his part, Al-Maliki stressed the urgent need to develop the agricultural infrastructure in Iraq and enhance modern technologies that British expertise can contribute to transferring and applying in Iraq.

He expressed his appreciation for the continued British support and the commitment of British companies to joint work towards a better future for relations between the two friendly countries.

According to the statement, these meetings come within the framework of the two countries’ efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and open new horizons for cooperation in various fields, especially in the agricultural sector, which represents great importance to the Iraqi economy.[/rtl]
