(Xinhua) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump agreed in a joint statement that their countries will continue to work together to fight and even destroy it completely.

The two leaders agreed on Saturday on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Vietnam that there would be no military solution to the crisis in Syria, stressing the commitment to Syria's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

The statement urged all parties to the Syrian conflict to participate actively in the peace process in Geneva, stressing that the final political settlement in Syria must exist within the framework of Geneva.

Putin and Trump called on UN member states to increase their contribution to Syria's assistance in the coming months, stressing the need to open channels of communication to avoid serious incidents in the Middle East.

Putin and Trump agreed, according to the statement, to continue monitoring the cease-fire in Syria at the monitoring center in Amman with the participation of experts from Jordan, Russia and the United States.
