Iraq's reservation to a resolution issued after the meeting of Arab foreign ministers, expressing regret at the rejection of the proposal made by Iraq and come out with a weak Arab decision.
The Arab foreign ministers concluded their meeting in Cairo on Saturday on US President Donald H. Trump's decision to transfer the US embassy to Jerusalem, where the final statement said the decision was false and a serious breach of international law.
"Iraq has reservations about the decisions of the Arab League because it did not reach the level of what we aspired to formulate in a responsible and genuine position towards a decision to preach the declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel," Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said in a statement posted on his website.
Jaafari added that "Iraq submitted a proposal to the League of Arab States did not agree," noting that "the proposal of Iraq to ensure the Arab countries take diplomatic and economic measures and attitudes towards the exchange of interests with the United States."
"The Iraqi proposal comes to preserve our national and religious interests if the United States does not retreat from its decision on Al-Quds Al-Sharif," he said.
In turn, said Ahmed Mahgoub, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, "Jaafari expressed regret for the rejection of the Iraqi proposal and the weakness of the Arab decision to be below the required level did not rise to the size of the threat facing the honorable Jerusalem," noting that "he called on Arab countries to take further political measures Which will protect Jerusalem. "
"The position of the delegation of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry is in line with the aspirations of the people and the government of the Republic of Iraq and the hopes of the Arab peoples to support the Palestinian cause and face the challenges it faces," Mahjoub said in a statement.
