The National Authority for Investment in Iraq announced yesterday the launch of the city of Habbaniyah tourism as an investment project, in a preliminary introduction to the preparations for a broad map of the investment opportunities that the Iraqi government relies on as a means of rebuilding the country.

She pointed out that "Iraq will be presented during the Kuwait International Conference, which will be held from February 12 to 14, a project to rehabilitate and develop the tourist city in Habbaniyah, which was the main icon of tourism in Iraq for decades.

Analysts believe that the launch of investment projects in this project is symbolic in the memory of Iraqis after the city was a symbol of the holidays, especially for the organization of weddings and honeymoon for many Iraqis.

"The project includes the rehabilitation of the tourist hotel and tourist apartments, the number of 200 tourist apartments, according to advanced specifications and the construction of a city of integrated games and a marina for boats, restaurants and a grand tent."

She explained that the shore of the lake will be like the international tourist beaches and that the cost of the project will be about $ 25 million for the first phase, a small amount seems to be a project that says it covers an area of 16 thousand square meters.

25 million dollars cost of the first phase, which is a small amount of a project that extends on an area of 16 thousand square meters and the
Authority said it is seeking to build a tourist city developed as an investment opportunity, but the statement confused the rehabilitation of the tourist city, which was founded in 1979 on the northern side of the Sea of Habbaniyah.

The project also extends along the banks of the Razzazah Lake, which is more than 20 kilometers from the site of the current tourist city, which has suffered from neglect for a long time, especially since the US invasion of Iraq in 2003.

The Authority said it intends to "expand the cultural and media activities of the tourist city to become a tourist and cultural city at the same time and be a receptive to all cultural and artistic festivals that will be organized in the future by providing all the suitable climates throughout the year.

She explained that the rehabilitation plan includes the establishment of open and closed theaters, halls, guest houses and modern cinemas, as well as the establishment of an information city and the deployment of satellite television stations as well.

The announcement comes at a time of increasing Iraqi officials' focus on presenting a map of investment projects rather than focusing on attracting aid to rebuild the slums, especially the devastated areas that were the scene of a war against a pro-Islamic organization.

Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week that he would present at the Kuwait conference a $ 100 billion reconstruction plan for the reconstruction of liberated cities. The conference will be attended by 70 countries as well as international organizations, including the World Bank.

The details, which are not yet clear, indicate that the government plans to launch 157 investment projects at the International Donor Conference, which organizers say will involve 70 countries as well as companies and investors.

Analysts say the chances of achieving the conference's high ambitions seem slim given the weakness of Iraqi institutions, widespread corruption and poor security and economic stability in the country.
