(Baghdad: Al Furat News) The technical agent of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mahdi al-Qaisi, confirmed the work of the agricultural calendar to support and protect the local product, and under the authorization of the Minister of Agriculture by the Committee on Economic Affairs.
"Working according to this calendar will enable us to determine the abundance and scarcity of the product and prevent the importation of a particular crop or group of crops, in order to support and protect the local product and not affected by the quantity or price in the local markets," Qaisi said in a statement to the ministry.
Al-Qaisi pointed out that "this decision is one of the means of protection for the local product and the provision of strict control at the border crossings to prevent the entry of products and goods without official import license."
He stressed "the lack of a recommendation by the ministry to import a number of crops, especially dates because of the abundance of production, as well as the excellence of good quality and lower prices compared to imported."
Al-Qaisi called on the competent authorities to abide by the instructions of the Ministry of Agriculture and the House of Representatives regarding the suspension of imports in order to prevent the dumping of the market and damage to the local product, in addition to supporting the farmer and the Iraqi farmer.
