The first Iraqi passenger plane is expected to arrive at Damascus International Airport on Monday, Syrian Transport Minister Ali Hammoud said.
"Today, the first Iraqi passenger plane is expected to arrive at Damascus International Airport," the minister told Sputnik.
The minister pointed out that "this is the first international flight from Iraq to Syria since the break in 2011," due to economic sanctions imposed on Syria.
"There are intentions in a number of countries to resume flights to Syria, but some are still fearful of US sanctions against Syria," the Syrian Transport Minister said.
"We are ready to restart any line to serve our people if the Syrian people or the people who want to visit Syria, and our interests are not only material," he said.
Since March 2011, Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict in which government forces confront armed groups belonging to different organizations, most notably a sympathetic organization and the Support Front.
