The World - The AmericansUS President Donald Trump has notified Congress that he will fire the US intelligence inspector general, who had a role in investigating and holding the president accountable last year.
Trump said in a message to key lawmakers Friday that he intends to fire Michael Atkinson within 30 days, explaining that "it is important that I have the greatest confidence in their eyes as inspectors general ."
Atkinson had said that the report of the person who disclosed the secrets (Trump's call to Zielinski) was reliable, and that meant Trump misused his position when he tried to seek the intervention of the President of Ukraine (Zielinski) in the upcoming US elections for his personal benefit .
After controversial party hearings, the Democrat-led House of Representatives voted to hold Trump accountable in preparation for his removal, but the Republican-led Senate cleared his charges in early February .
Republicans hold a majority in the House with 53 seats, compared to 47 for Democrats, while Republican Senator Mitt Romney was the only one to announce that he was voting against Trump's acquittal .
This is not the first time that the US president has dismissed people who have had a relationship with his accountability, since he sacked earlier, Alexander Vendman, the chief White House expert on Ukrainian affairs from office after he testified against him .
Vendemann was one of the most important Democratic witnesses to the removal of the US president, a military lieutenant colonel with a medal, and he warned of the danger of Trump's July 25, 2019 call to his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zielinsky .
This trial was a historic milestone in the United States. It is the third time in its history that Congress has tried the president in an isolation mechanism, after Presidents Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1999 .
