    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

The General Company for Iraqi Ports, affiliated to the Ministry of Transport, announced, on Tuesday, preparations for the implementation of the first phase of the water tunnel project, “The Silk Tunnel.”

Bahaa Ismail, the official of relations and media at Al-Mawani Company, said in a statement that “the ministry has many projects that it is working on, including the Zubair port system, which is one of the vital ports,” noting that “90% of its oil berths are preparing to receive oil derivatives and export them abroad, We are also currently implementing the exit road from the southern and northern Umm Qasr ports, and this road will facilitate the smooth exit of trucks loaded with goods and is considered one of the vital projects.”

Ismail added, “The ports are also working on completing the (Great Welcome Square) project, which is one of the important projects that is considered a shift towards electronic transformation through the installation of the electronic automation system, which will enter into force during the next few period, and is the largest project implemented in Iraq in terms of area. Which amounts to 1.5 million square meters in the port of Umm Qasr,” noting that “this yard will include all the supporting departments that work in the ports, whether they are customs, ports, health, trade and others.”

He stressed that "this yard will include many services for port pioneers, merchants and visitors, as well as service buildings of public interest for the pioneers of the southern and northern Umm Qasr ports, and the project will contribute to reducing the congestion that occurs in the two ports," adding that "the yard will be to accommodate all trucks, whether they are Dakhla. Or leave and there will be audits, as well as the use of the electronic card.”

He continued: "Among the ministry's projects related to ports is the water tunnel project (the Silk Tunnel), which is one of the unique projects in the Middle East. It is a submerged tunnel that connects the port of Faw to the international road through a road that passes through Faw through the navigation channel of Khor Al-Zubair, that is, between Umm Qasr port and Khor Al-Zubair, and this tunnel connects the Faw port to the Silk Road through Umm Qasr International Road to Baghdad,” noting that “the concrete bases for the tunnel’s concrete cast were built.”
