Iran does not support Maliki for third term, but support Iraqi people’s choice

Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif denied his country’s support for Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in order to get the post of prime minister for a third term, adding that Iran stands with the choice of the Iraqi people.
Zarif said in a press statement that: “Iran wants to preserve the unity of Iraq and I have talked with all the foreign ministers in the region and they all want to keep Iraq’s integrity within its borders, adding that we’re not going to support any person for the post of prime minister in Iraq, we support the Iraqi people and its options, and any person selected by the Iraqi people for the post of prime minister he will get our support. ”
He added, “the extremism and sectarianism threaten the entire region, including Iran, and we do not like to see our neighbors in an unstable state.” / End
