    {Local: Al Furat News} The Ministry of Trade was able, within two weeks, to launch the food basket project, distributing 60% of it among the citizens of Baghdad and all the governorates of the country.
    This was stated by its spokesperson, Muhammad Hanoun, in a press interview, explaining that "the ministry has given the ration card file great attention to the adoption of a large segment of citizens on it," referring to the food basket project "to develop and enhance it in order to ensure its continuity, especially after adding new materials to it." 
    He added, "The food items distributed within the basket include rice, sugar, oil, legumes and tomato paste."
    Last May, the Council of Ministers approved the proposals of the Ministry of Commerce regarding the food baskets project, the amounts of which will be secured by the Ministry of Finance within the ration card allocations approved in the 2021 budget, and the Ministry of Oil supporting trade to implement it in coordination with the Finance.
    Hanoun added that "the distribution and preparation of baskets for warehouses and branches continued even during the blessed Eid al-Adha holiday," noting that "their distribution began in poor and disadvantaged areas and the outskirts of cities, and therefore the ministry is in the process of completing it," especially since the work will continue monthly and after the ministry has completed the necessary contracts to provide materials. ".
    And he indicated that "50 percent of the rice material has been prepared for citizens, and there is a ship loaded with the material that will arrive in the country at the end of this month and will be allocated to distribute the remaining prescribed quantity," noting that "the ministry is keen that the rice material is of the luxurious basmati type and not be replaced by any material that is not accepted." to the citizens.”
    Last March, the Council of Ministers directed the Ministry of Commerce to withhold the ration card items from non-needy groups, starting in June, including families whose monthly income exceeds 1.5 million dinars.
