{Umniah: Al Furat News} A member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Abbas Sarout, clarified the role and tasks of the foreign advisory forces and their combat teams in Iraq.
Sarout told {Euphrates News} that "the advisory foreign forces differ in terms of equipment and number from the military presence," noting that "the advisory is limited to limited individuals, while the land is in the largest numbers for the needs of each military faction for a crew, such as a tank, an armored vehicle and a Humvee."
He added, "It is not possible for the US ground military presence to turn into an advisory with these numbers."
Yesterday evening, Iraq and the United States issued the joint final statement of the fourth round of the strategic dialogue between the two countries.
The joint statement stressed that "the delegations of the two countries agreed that the security relationship will move entirely to advice, training and intelligence cooperation, and there will be no presence of US combat forces in Iraq by December 31, 2021."
The statement indicated that "the bases hosting the United States and other members of the international coalition are Iraqi bases that are administered according to the Iraqi laws in force, not US bases or rules of the international coalition, and that the presence of international personnel in Iraq is only to support the government of Iraq in the war against ISIS."
The Iraqi-US statement confirms that "the government of Iraq reaffirmed its commitment to protect the members of the international coalition who provide advice and training to the Iraqi security forces, and also confirmed that all the international coalition forces worked in Iraq at its invitation."
He pointed out that "the United States intends to continue its support for the Iraqi security forces, including the Peshmerga forces, in order to build their ability to deal with threats."
