    The Ministry of Planning confirmed today, Saturday, the growth in the capabilities of the private sector during the past year 2020, through its contribution to activating the economic cycle, increasing productivity with high quality, and providing more job opportunities.
    A statement by the ministry stated, "The economic indicators monitored by the Central Bureau of Statistics, during the past year, revealed that the percentage of new buildings completed by the private sector amounted to 82% of the total number of completed buildings, while the total cost spent on the construction of completed and uncompleted buildings amounted to (892) billion dinars.
    The statement added that "the number of workers in the buildings of the private sector reached (29,355) workers," stressing that "the year 2020 witnessed the construction of more than (6) thousand housing houses at a cost of (691) billion dinars, and the capital, Baghdad, came first in building residential houses by ( 28%), followed by Najaf Governorate (12%), and Diyala Governorate came third with 8%.
    He pointed out that "the activity of the brick industry contributed to employing the highest percentage of workers, exceeding (56%), followed by the activity of grinding grains (17%), and other activities (26%).
    He explained that "the value of production decreased by (8%) during the year 2020, despite the increase in the number of establishments to (6316) billion dinars, attributing this decline to the Corona pandemic, which caused the establishments to stop working for several months, and the value of the private sector production reached (31) %) of the total production.
    The statement continued: “As for the most important economic activities in the private sector, at the forefront comes the activity of the sugar industry, which represented the highest production value amounting to (46%) of the total private sector activities, followed by the activity of the brick industry by (16%), and the beverage industry reached The value of its production (15%), while the rest of the activities constituted (23%).
    He pointed out that "the number of large industrial establishments increased to (719) establishments in 2020 after their number was (670) establishments in 2019. This increase, which exceeded 7%, comes as a result of the growth of the private sector in most governorates, indicating that these establishments were distributed by (634) establishments in the private sector, (18) establishments only in the government sector, and (60) establishments in the mixed sector, indicating that the total number of employees decreased in 2020 by (6.5%), due to the new retirement law, which caused a reduction The number of workers in the public and government sector, as well as due to the Corona pandemic, which negatively affected the economy in general, and industrial activity in particular.
    The statement noted that "the raw materials and other requirements were affected by the decrease in production, as the percentage of decrease was (9%), while the added value decreased during the year 2020 by (7%)."
