    The Turkish Consul General in Erbil, Hakan Kara Gay, announced that Iraq imports more than three billion dollars worth of gold annually, about half of it from Turkey, indicating that the rate of trade exchange between his country and Iraq rose this year by 20 percent compared to previous years.
    This came in a press conference held on the sidelines of the International Jewelery and Gold Exhibition in Erbil, which is the first of its kind in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
    With the participation of 30 Turkish and Italian companies and one Kurdish company, the International Jewelery and Gold Exhibition was opened at the “Divan” Hotel in Erbil, which will last for three days, and includes many jewelry and gold making machines.
    The exhibition aims to build a broader trade relationship between Iraq and the Kurdistan region with Turkey and Italy in the field of jewelry and gold trade, according to the organizers.
    The Turkish Consul said, "Turkey enjoys a very good trade relationship with Iraq, and we have increased the trade rate this year by 20 percent compared to previous years, and our goal is to improve and expand the scope of work in this field."
    He went on to say that "these types of exhibitions are very important, especially for different sectors. A few days ago, another exhibition was opened in Erbil, where more than half of the companies from Turkey came to participate in it."
    The Turkish Consul also said, "We are aware that Iraq imports more than three billion dollars worth of gold annually, about half of which is imported from Turkey, which is the main reason behind the opening of the exhibition for the first time in Iraq and Erbil."
