Washington praises Barzani's role and stresses: We want a strong Iraqi government
Shafaq News/ Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani discussed with the US ambassador to Iraq Matthew Tueller today, Wednesday, the political process and steps to form the new Iraqi government, while Tueller stressed that Washington wants a strong Iraqi government.
A statement by Barzani's headquarters, received by Shafaq News Agency, said that "the head of the Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, received the US ambassador to Baghdad, Matthew Tueller and his accompanying delegation, where Tueller reiterated his country's support for the stability of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq."
The US ambassador stressed that "the United States wants the next Iraqi government to be a strong government, and he valued Barzani's role in establishing the Kurdistan Region, the new Iraq, and the Iraqi political process."
The statement added; In another aspect of this meeting, views were exchanged on the challenges and obstacles facing the political process and pressure on political parties to disrupt the implementation of constitutional and democratic procedures in the Iraqi political process.
Regarding the Iraqi political crisis, Barzani said, "In order to correct the situation in Iraq, the parliament and other institutions must carry out their normal duties and implement the principles of partnership, balance and the constitution, away from any pressure."
On the other hand, Masoud Barzani received on Wednesday Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn. A statement by Barzani's headquarters, received by Shafaq News Agency, said, "In the meeting, views were exchanged on the political situation in Iraq and the region, various crises, and the causes and expected results of the war between Russia and Ukraine."
With regard to the situation in Iraq, the two sides expressed their hope that the obstacles to the political process in Iraq will be removed and that the next Iraqi government will be responsible for the problems and the implementation of the provisions of the constitution.
The situation of Yazidis and refugees in Sinjar was another focus of the meeting, according to the statement.
