During the current month, the Parliamentary Economy Committee sent several calls to the government of Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani, calling for the reactivation of the local product protection law, in light of the continued rise in prices of imported goods as a result of the disturbance in the value of the dinar against the dollar.
The head of the committee, Ali al-Moussawi, said that the industry in Iraq is subject to a large decline due to goods imported from abroad, despite the presence of Iraqi industrialists who can contribute to the advancement of the national industrial reality.
Al-Moussawi stressed the importance of opening the way for the private sector as necessary in order to develop and advance the national industry to protect the local product.
Al-Moussawi emphasized that their calls for activating the local product protection law come after studying the market situation and industrialists' complaints about their inability to compete with imported goods that flooded the market.
He pointed out that his committee is discussing supporting the provision of necessary loans for the industrial sector within the next budget, and enacting several laws that preserve the support and advancement of the national industry.
