It is no secret to anyone the importance of small projects and industries, as they are considered necessary and important for various groups, and they are often an economic tributary or, at the very least, a source of income for many.
For example, whoever enters Abu Walid's shop, which trades in selling pottery, cannot overlook its bright colors and the way it is arranged, which varies between blue or white, as well as other colors, and near it his colleague Shihab Saber sells wooden baskets and wicker items.
The pottery seems to have been made with perfection, and Abu Walid says:
"Since I was a small child, I have accompanied my father in his work, as he used to sell pottery and ceramics." And the matter is not limited to (Abu Walid) only, but there is also his neighbor (Abu Najeh), who also sells pottery and ceramic utensils and considers them a source of good profit.
Historical sources indicate that the pottery industry is one of the oldest industries known to man, as he used rock, then grinded it and made it kneadable. .
The development of the economy
It is well known that in all countries of the world there are various sources that supply the local economy, and work to develop and develop it, and because Iraq is one of the countries that has always been distinguished and has a major role in various industries. , from the point of view of the Dean of the Faculty of Business Economics at Al-Nahrain University, Dr. Nagham Hussein Nima, that Handicrafts are of great importance, because they play a fundamental role in the development of the national economy, whether directly or indirectly. Nehme believes that such industries are often unique and depend on purely local raw materials for their production.
Professional love
Wooden baskets and wicker dishes were spread in the corners of the small shop, in which Shihab Saber works, and the shelves seemed to be clearly arranged and eye-catching, and he always tries to develop his designs, which he considers simple but well- made at the same time, as he loves his profession and tries to improve it more, and Saber faces great challenges, including the competition with the importer, who is often cheaper than the local one.
The Dean of Business Economics at Al-Nahrain University, Dr. Nagham Hussein Nima, believes that these industries do not need highly advanced technology, because they are a set of handicrafts that have primitive and simple aesthetic and artistic values, and also developed because they depend on specialized skilled hands, who are the craftsmen who spread throughout the country, who considers this type of industry a source of livelihood for them, and often seeks the assistance of their family members in this work.
Distinguished crafts
She sat on the sofa and placed in front of her a group of beads of bright colors, and she seemed preoccupied as she prepared and counted the bracelets and necklaces. Since childhood, Kamal's visions love everything related to handicrafts and handicrafts, and about this Kamal says:
"I like making necklaces and bracelets very much, as I choose the best types of beads, as well as the tools that go into this industry, and I always try to master and develop this profession."
According to economist Rashid al-Saadi, the pottery industry and handicrafts have a great impact on the local economy, because many families practice this profession. , and they generate profit for their owners.
While sociology experts agree that making handicrafts and accessories is highly preferred for girls, because they are often a source of livelihood, and therefore they can achieve themselves through these simple works.
industrial heritage
(Abu Walid) is very proud of his work, because he has been associated with it since his childhood, as he always accompanied his father in this profession. Despite the difficulties he is experiencing today, the possibility of providing raw materials and the competition of their products with those in the markets, he is trying to overcome these obstacles.
The Dean of Business Economics at Al-Nahrain University, Dr. Nagham Hussein Nima, states that despite the industrial development that the world witnessed during the second half of the last century, this matter did not lead to the neglect of primitive craft industries for various reasons, including the Iraqis' pride in them and their preference over their imported counterparts. .
item in the budget
Small industries such as handicrafts and others need support in order to reach the largest possible number of consumers. Economist Rashid al-Saadi explains that it is expected that there will be an item in the next budget to support these industries and their owners because of their impact on the local economy.
Dr. Nagham Hussein Nema, Dean of Business Economics at Al-Nahrain University, shares this opinion, assuring that there is a direct impact of craft industries on the economy, as they are working on its development, and it is possible to expand the area of production, increase the percentage of employment, and increase exports.
Nehme points out that if these industries are taken care of, and their production processes are properly managed and marketed, they will have a good impact on their owners and the economy, because they are linked to heritage as they are economical and dependent on raw materials , but their owners need soft loans and real support to increase their effectiveness and development. And coordination between these various industries to ensure the country's industrial progress.
