    Economy News - Baghdad
On Sunday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani chaired a meeting to discuss housing projects and the construction of roads to relieve traffic jams, in the presence of the Minister of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works, the head of the Investment Authority and a number of officials concerned in the areas of housing and roads.
Al-Sudani listened to a "detailed presentation on the mechanism of attracting investors, and the contribution of the private sector in building new cities and providing housing units worthy of the Iraqi citizen, as the construction of housing units for low-income people within the investment complexes was reviewed."
Al-Sudani continued, according to a statement by his office, "the final stages of the mechanism for distributing residential plots of land among citizens after completing their infrastructure."
The statement added, "In the context of what the Prime Minister directed earlier, regarding carrying out projects to relieve traffic jams in the capital, Baghdad, and in light of what was included in the government program in this field, the Minister of Construction and Housing reviewed project proposals that contribute to resolving these bottlenecks within Baghdad, in all choke points, which amount to more than 17 projects distributed between bridges and tunnels.
And the statement continued, “In this regard, (Al-Sudani) directed quickly to announce the implementation of these projects, and to give priority to traffic congestion areas such as the approaches to Al-Jadriya Bridge, Aden Square, the roads leading to Sadr City, the entrances to Baghdad, Al-Nusour and Cordoba squares, and the approaches to the new Central Bank building.” In addition to proposing the opening of new streets, the expansion of the Airport Street, the Al-Tawqabin Bridge-Dora-Yousefiya Road, and other proposals.
During the meeting, Al-Sudani also listened to "details of the stages of implementing the fourth ring road to the city of Baghdad, and the need to start implementing it as a first priority and to announce its implementation during the next month."
