Al-Sudani invites Arab leaders to hold their summit in Baghdad 2025

Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani called on the League of Arab States to develop its approaches towards building an economic bloc, to strengthen the economies of the Arab countries and invest their various resources in the best way, stressing the importance of joint Arab action in order to contain the differences, this came in his speech before the Arab summit held in Jeddah. in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Friday, at the end of which a final statement of 12 items on various Arab issues was issued.
Prime Minister's speech
At the beginning of his speech, Al-Sudani welcomed the return of brotherly Syria to its normal place, noting that it is "a step that we emphasized and supported from the beginning because we believe it is important on the road to restoring stability in the region," stressing "the importance of joint Arab action to contain differences."
He added, "It is our duty not to let brotherly Sudan slip into the furnace of dissension and internal strife, and we welcome initiatives calling for an end to the fighting there, and we hope that efforts to achieve stability in sisterly Libya will succeed." And we renew our standing with our brothers in Lebanon, in order to overcome their political and economic circumstances.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Al-Sudani said: "We stress Iraq's firm and principled position regarding the Palestinian right to land and sovereignty and the establishment of a state with Jerusalem as its capital." He also welcomed "the agreement between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is a practical step that Iraq supported and worked to achieve by investing in good intentions." from the two neighboring countries, to serve the stability and prosperity of the region.
He stressed that "the Arabs rallying around each other is not isolation, but rather increases our openness to our neighbors as Arabs together and as individual Arab countries," calling on "the Arab League to develop its approaches towards building an economic bloc, to strengthen our economies and invest our various resources in the best way," noting that "many countries have been able to build Successful economic blocs, and they do not have common elements among their members, so we must investigate all angles of economic interdependence and integration between our countries.
And he indicated that "Iraq will host several conferences to lay the foundation stone for such cooperation, including the (Baghdad 2023) conference, for economic integration and regional stability. The capital, Baghdad, is preparing these days to host the (Development Path) conference, that promising project that will strengthen the ties and inclusive interests of our peoples."
He pointed out that "the file of climate change and water scarcity requires us to work jointly in the light of international laws and norms to find radical solutions that mitigate their negative effects, just as the scourge of drugs, and its parallel attempts to influence cultural and values, requires us to take a decisive position that stems from solidarity and cooperation."

And he warned that "the Iraqis confronted the terrorist attack that was not only targeting Iraq, but the region and the world, and made sacrifices, and the victory we achieved pushes us to move forward to build our country."
At the end of his speech, Al-Sudani presented to all Arab leaders, "the invitation to hold the 2025 Arab Summit in Baghdad, which looks forward to embracing the Arab brothers in Mesopotamia."
Iraq participation
And Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani arrived yesterday morning, Friday, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to attend the 32nd Arab Summit, and he was received at the summit venue, Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman.
On the sidelines of participation in the Arab summit, Al-Sudani received Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and during the meeting they discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Iraq and Lebanon and develop partnership between the two countries in various fields, for the benefit of the two brotherly peoples.
During the meeting, Mikati expressed Lebanon's government and people's appreciation for Iraq's supportive stances and continued fuel support for the Lebanese people, and indicated that Iraq today is at the forefront of Arab countries supporting Lebanon in overcoming its circumstances and consolidating its stability.
And the Prime Minister stated that "the supportive stance of brother Lebanon in overcoming economic conditions stems from the duty of deep-rooted brotherhood between the two countries," and affirmed "Iraq's support for Lebanon's stability in overcoming difficulties and challenges."
Highlights of the closing statement
In addition, the Saudi Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, delivered the final statement of the Arab summit, the "Jeddah Declaration", which included several items, perhaps the most prominent of which are:
The Arab League affirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause to the entire Arab nation, the Arab identity of occupied East Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Palestine, the right of the State of Palestine to absolute sovereignty over all of its land occupied in 1967, including East Jerusalem, and the importance of activating the "Arab Peace Initiative".
- Regarding the Lebanese file, the statement urged the Lebanese authorities to continue efforts to elect a president for the country and form a government as soon as possible, and to carry out economic reforms to get out of the stifling crisis.
As for the Syrian issue, the statement stressed the renewal of commitment to preserving the sovereignty, territorial integrity and stability of Syria, and the intensification of efforts to help it get out of its crisis, and end the suffering of the Syrian people.
With regard to Sudan, full solidarity was affirmed in preserving the country's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, refusing to interfere in its internal affairs, considering the crisis as an internal matter, and preserving institutions.
With regard to the Iranian file, the statement welcomed the agreement reached between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Iran in Beijing, which includes the resumption of diplomatic relations, the reopening of their missions, and the activation of the security and economic cooperation agreement between the two countries.
Within the developments of the situation in Libya, the statement affirmed commitment to the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Libya, the rejection of all types of external interference, and the refrain from escalation.
On Yemen, the statement spoke of commitment to the country's unity and sovereignty, affirming the continued support of the legitimate Yemeni government led by the Presidential Leadership Council headed by Rashad Muhammad al-Alimi, and strengthening its role and support.
- In support of Somalia, the statement called for supporting the efforts of the Somali government in its comprehensive war against terrorism, especially the terrorist "Al-Shabab" movement; With the aim of eliminating it, and paying tribute to the Somali National Army.
With regard to combating terrorism, the statement condemned all forms of criminal operations launched by terrorist organizations in Arab countries and the world, and called on Arab countries that have not ratified the Arab Convention on Combating Terrorism to ratify it.
Leaders' words
It was remarkable in the Jeddah Summit that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad participated for the first time in an Arab summit in 12 years. The summit also witnessed the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a guest of honor, where he delivered a speech to Arab leaders, as well as reading a special message from Russian President Vladimir Putin about the Russian partnership. Arabic.
The work of the summit began with a speech by the Algerian Prime Minister, Ayman bin Abdel Rahman, in which he stressed the keenness to unify the Arab ranks, welcoming the return of Syria to the Arab League. Those present and Ukrainian President Zelensky.
And bin Salman stated, "We assure friendly countries in the East and West that we are moving forward in peace," stressing by saying: "We will not allow our region to turn into a zone of conflicts." He added, "We hope that Syria's return to the Arab League will be an end to its crisis."
And the Saudi Crown Prince affirmed: "It is enough for us, with turning the page of the past, to remember the painful years of conflicts that the region lived through.. It is enough for us to have enough of the conflicts that the peoples of the region suffered from and because of which development faltered."
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, valued not missing opportunities to resolve the Syrian crisis politically, and welcomed President al-Assad at the summit and Syria's return to the Arab League, considering that "there is an opportunity that should not be missed to address the crisis politically," and he also welcomed the "agreement." between Saudi Arabia and Iran,” considering that “the international scene is going through the most dangerous period in the contemporary world, and it is necessary to stick to Arab interests to face the pressures of international polarization.”
In his speech before the summit, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati stated that his country suffers from multiple crises and is going through difficult years, stressing that "Lebanon's crisis has increased with the vacancy of the position of the President of the Republic," calling for "developing a road map for the return of the displaced Syrians to their lands."
As for the Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, he made it clear in his speech that "the global unrest has serious consequences and necessitates that we put in place appropriate mechanisms to confront it," noting that "the understandings between Saudi Arabia and Iran will reflect positively on the region," and stressed "support for Syria's return to its influential role in the Arab and regional spheres." He rejected any external interference in Syrian affairs.
In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his message to the Arab summit: "We intend to expand multifaceted cooperation with Arab countries, and we are keen to support efforts to resolve crises in Sudan, Libya and Yemen," stressing the continuation of "providing all possible assistance to settle the Palestinian-Israeli conflict."
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who is participating in the summit for the first time in 12 years, warned in his speech that "we are facing a historic opportunity to rearrange our business with the least amount of foreign interference." He stressed, "We will resort to all international courts to restore Palestinian rights." Stressing the rejection of "the Israeli occupation authorities' continued violation of our land and sanctities, and we call on the international community to hold Israel accountable for its crimes."
In turn, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said: "The region is going through harsh conditions that threaten the present and the future," stressing "the necessity of establishing a Palestinian state to achieve peace in the region," warning at the same time that "the Sudan crisis portends a long conflict if it is not contained." And he indicated that "Syria's return to the League of Arab States is tantamount to activating the work of the Arab role and starting an Arab process to resolve the crisis in it."
In addition, Jordan's King Abdullah II stated, in his speech during the summit, that "the system of joint Arab action always needs development and renewal, and this is the role of the Arab League." He also indicated that "a just and comprehensive peace will only be achieved through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state." He warned that "the crisis in Syria had a high price, and we welcome Syria's return to the Arab League, and we have repeatedly warned against the continuation of the Syrian crisis without a solution," stressing "support for the Iraqi government's measures to enhance the stability of the country."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who attended the summit, said in his speech to the Arab leaders: "We will never submit to Russian ambitions," appreciating "Saudi mediation for the release of prisoners," but stressed at the same time that "the Ukrainians are forced to continue fighting and that no one agrees to He surrendered his land, and they did not choose war, and our forces did not enter the lands of other countries.”
