The Integrity Commission wages a relentless war against corruption

This year witnessed an unprecedented activity by the Federal Integrity Commission in exposing corruption files and chasing and arresting the corrupt, especially with regard to important officials in the state, which confirms the government's serious approach to combating corruption.
According to the authority's data obtained by "Al-Sabah", the total seizure operations amounted to more than 570 operations since the beginning of this year, while 89 arrest and recruitment orders were issued against senior officials in the past two months only.
The Integrity Commission launched a campaign to report the inflation of funds in the General Authority of Customs, while the head of the commission, Judge Haider Hanoun, called for the mobilization of official and societal activities to wage the great war against corruption.
The media and government communication office in the authority stated to "Al-Sabah" that "work continues in combating corruption by mobilizing the anti-corruption army and recovering funds, as well as concluding bilateral agreements with countries of the world," and added that "coordination continues with other countries, and the arrests have been made." accused in the territories of those countries,” stressing that “Iraq is one of the countries that have joined the (United Nations Convention against Corruption) and (the Arab Convention against Corruption).”
In turn, a member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, Saud Al-Saadi, praised the efforts of the commission, calling for the development of a strategic vision that includes people's participation and education to reduce corruption. Al-Saadi told Al-Sabah: “Efforts are continuing to reduce and combat corruption as much as possible, especially with the new government assuming responsibility.” and other endeavours.
A member of the Integrity Committee praised the conclusion of agreements with some regional and international countries aimed at developing an integrated vision and framework to reduce corruption, arrest the corrupt and recover looted funds, and other active activities that we see and witness, especially the efforts of the Integrity Commission, stressing the need to Framing work according to a strategic vision that includes the participation of people and educating them to reduce corruption.
The head of the Integrity Commission, Judge Haider Hanoun, had previously revealed the Commission's achievements in the past year 2022, and it is clear from the figures the growth of the Commission's work in the current year 2023 with the number of referred cases and arrest and recruitment orders against officials.
In its annual report 2022, the authority stated that “3924 cases were referred to the Court of First Instance – Misdemeanors and Felonies, which included 6647 referral orders, including ministers and special grades and below.” It indicated that “19 arrest warrants were issued against (13) ministers and They are of their rank, and (153) arrest warrants are issued against (71) senior officials and general managers, some of whom are currently in a position of responsibility, and some of them are former officials.
She pointed out that "the total public funds that the authority prevented and investigated wasting, and which judicial rulings were issued to return them, and which were suspended based on its procedures, and which were actually returned to the account of the public treasury, and which were seized during the control operations during the year 2022, amounted to 2.25 trillion dinars."
In addition, the legal expert, Ali Al-Tamr, called for the full activation of the Integrity Commission Law, considering that its articles provided a suitable ground for exposing spoilers.
Al-Tamr told Al-Sabah: "The corrupt are covered by a political or authoritarian cover, and when the cover is revealed, the Integrity Commission will enjoy freedom and a wide scope to investigate and arrest the corrupt." He added that "one of the difficulties that the Integrity Commission faces is the failure to provide the investigation requirements to uncover the facts." , stressing that "the Integrity Commission Law is complete."
And he continued: “The law (where did you get this from?) was not applied to everyone, but rather to certain groups.” And he indicated that “the investigative procedures are entrusted to national security and not to the Integrity Commission, which is a violation of the Commission’s law, because its articles provided all the tools to complete the investigation and reveal the corrupt.” .
