The Ministry of Transport has expressed its intention to operate the first phase of the Al-Faw Grand Port project at the end of the year 2025, after achieving large percentages of the steps to complete the port and its related projects.
Director of the General Company for Ports, Farhan Al-Fartousi, told Al-Sabah that the international companies operating in the transport and maritime shipping sector considered the great port of Faw a promising port in the regional and global maritime system, especially since great strides were made in its completion process, especially after the commencement of the concrete wall casting operations. For the five berths project, in addition to achieving advanced completion rates in the submerged tunnel project, pointing out that the team formed to prepare the requirements for operating the large port of Faw continues to hold meetings regarding the necessity of resolving the issue of its operation as soon as possible and with the best options offered, according to the government's vision using the best international expertise.
Al-Fartousi stated that a memorandum of understanding was concluded with a Singaporean company to train Iraqi port employees in Singaporean ports on the use of the single window and control the handling of goods inside the port, as well as developing the company's staff in the field of converting ports to work within the single window, and cooperation in the field of developing logistical work within Iraqi ports.
