The Ministry of Construction and Housing announced today, Sunday, the intention to construct four bridges with modern specifications and technologies during the next two years, while indicating the number of tunnels within the first package of projects to relieve traffic congestion.
Director General of the Roads and Bridges Department in the Ministry, Hussein Jassim Kazim, said, “The issue of determining projects is based on traffic work and surveillance cameras, as well as taking into account what the project is, whether it is a bridge or a tunnel, in addition to the presence of conflicts, as there are some conflicts that cannot be removed.” Such as heavy sewer lines, water pipelines, railways or oil lines.”
He explained, “Within the current package of projects to relieve irrigation bottlenecks, there are more than 8 tunnels, 3 in Al-Nisour, 2 at the Al-Rashid Camp intersection, and one in Al-Rustamiyah at the Muhammad Al-Qasim intersection with the Army Canal, in addition to a tunnel in Al-Hasanein Square in the Karada area outside the bottom of the suspension bridge, to Some tunnels within the second package projects will see the light if there are financial allocations.”
He added, "During the next two years, 4 bridges will be constructed with modern specifications and technologies for the first time in Iraq," noting that "over the course of 100 years, only 13 bridges were constructed, and thus the total number of bridges in Baghdad will become 17 bridges."
