    Today, Monday (November 27, 2023), the Parliamentary Finance Committee revealed the goal of the Iraqi delegation’s “financial and economic” visit to the Turkish capital, Ankara, today.
    Committee member Jamal Cougar told “Baghdad Today” that “Iraq is working to diversify sources of foreign currency in foreign transactions, and the visit of the Iraqi delegation to Turkey aims to open bank accounts with the aim of enhancing external transfer in the euro currency, and this will reduce dependence on the dollar in foreign transactions.” Especially with Turkey, which has a very large trade exchange with Iraq.”
    Cougar stressed, “Diversifying the sources of foreign currency in foreign transactions will limit the demand for the dollar in the parallel market for the purpose of making black transfers, and this matter will be reflected in a reduction in the price and be very close to the official price approved and fixed by the Central Bank, and we will work to host members.” The delegation returned after their return to learn the details of their dialogues in Ankara.”
    A government source reported yesterday, Sunday (November 26, 2023), that a delegation of Iraqi financial officials and bank managers will head to Turkey tomorrow, Monday, to resolve 3 files related to trade exchange, open correspondent accounts for Iraqi banks, and facilitate the use of credit cards for Iraqi residents and tourists.
    The source told "Baghdad Today", "Based on the Prime Minister's directives regarding organizing trade exchange between Iraq and Turkey and stabilizing it through approved legal and banking methods and means, and in continuation of the first round of discussions that took place in Baghdad on Wednesday, 11/15/2013, he will leave at dawn tomorrow, Monday." A delegation including the financial advisor to the Prime Minister, three officials from the Central Bank of Iraq, and directors of 12 Iraqi banks to hold discussions with a number of Turkish financial and banking institutions, including the Central Bank of Turkey and the Association of Banks, in addition to the Turkish Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency.
    He added, "The discussions will focus on a number of topics, including discussions with Turkish banks for the purpose of opening correspondent accounts for Iraqi banks in various foreign currencies to be used in account settlements between the two countries and resolving all obstacles facing the two parties in implementing this process, and discussing facilitating the use of credit cards for Iraqi residents and tourists." in the Turkish banking market.
    He continued, "The organization of trade exchange between the two countries will also be discussed through the Turkish and Iraqi customs authorities matching the goods supplied to Iraq with the financial transfer documents through the window for buying and selling foreign currency, in a way that protects the interests and stability of trade between the two countries."
    He pointed out, "It is hoped that the above discussions will result in the signing of a number of agreements regarding banking arrangements between the two countries, which will contribute to containing the demand for the cash dollar through the irregular market for foreign currencies."
