    The Ministry of Planning is completing preparations and plans to conduct the population census this year, 2024, after its absence since 1997, in a step that the Ministry is considering over the coming years.

    She also explained that “the time factor is one of the most important challenges facing us in conducting the census due to the short period of time, and there are great efforts and additional work to overcome this,” noting that “work is now being conducted in coordination with the Kurdistan Region and the Supreme Representative for the Census, and there are ongoing meetings and coordination with Statistics Authority and the Ministry of Planning in Kurdistan.
    Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Muhammad Ali Tamim, recently chaired a meeting of the opinion committee in the ministry, which was devoted to discussing the ongoing preparations for conducting the general population and housing census, which is scheduled to be implemented in Iraq during the month of November 2024, as well as discussing the directions and priorities of the investment budget. The statement added that Basra Governorate projects included establishing schools in a number of villages.
    It is worth noting that the Social Fund project targets the most vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in the governorates, with the aim of improving the service, social and economic reality of the villagers by providing job opportunities, reducing unemployment and raising their standard of living.
