The decision of the Presidency of Parliament to publish the names of MPs absent from sessions and to deduct an amount of one million dinars from their salaries received positive reactions in the corridors of Parliament, while the decision was popularly welcomed on social media sites.
Representative Waad Qaddo said, in an interview in a statement reported by “Al-Sabah” newspaper, seen by Mawazine News/, that “the decision of the Acting Speaker of the Council, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, is legal, and it was approved in the bylaws during the last sessions,” indicating that “the decision was voted on and is one of the Powers of the Chairman of the Council.
Qaddo stressed "the necessity of the representative's commitment to attending the sessions, considering that this is the core of his work and duty by keeping up with the events and requirements that citizens need."
For his part, the representative of Basra Governorate, Asaad Al-Bazouni, explained in a statement followed by Mawazine News that “the decision of the Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives came to maintain the rhythm of the work of the House of Representatives and that he urges the representatives to attend.”
Al-Bazuni pointed out, "There is a need not to deal with material matters. The representative must bear his legislative and legal responsibility before the country and the public."
He explained that "the deduction of one million dinars for every day of delay came as a result of pressure, and the deterrent must be personal and concern the MP's conscience in bearing responsibility."
Earlier, the Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, directed the Media Department to publish the names of the representatives absent from yesterday’s session, Monday, and the Finance Department to deduct an amount (one million dinars) for their non-attendance.
