The Ministry of Industry and Minerals is moving to establish the first city of its kind in the country for the iron and steel industry in Basra Governorate, with an area of three thousand dunums.
Assistant Director of the Industrial Cities Authority in the Ministry, Riyad Jassim Kazem, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” followed by “Al-Iqtisad News” that, within his ministry’s plans to promote economic development, it has begun establishing industrial cities in the majority of governorates to be the starting point for the development of the economic wheel in those regions, adding The most important of them is a city for the iron and steel industry in Basra, with an area of three thousand dunams, according to the latest specialized international designs.
He stated that the city, which will be implemented by the Chinese Qinghai Company, one of the largest companies specialized in this field, will be an integrated industrial project that includes factories for the manufacture of sponge iron, aluminum and stainless steel to cover the needs of the local market, indicating the authority’s keenness to develop a special vision on how to operate and manage the city. And work to provide infrastructure services and road networks, after obtaining the necessary approvals and in coordination with the concerned authorities.
In the same context, Kazem pointed out that the purpose of establishing advanced formal industrial complexes is to attract industrialists and businessmen through major industrial cities that specialize in advanced industries, in addition to the thousands of opportunities it will provide for young graduates and professionals.
