Member of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee, Representative Hussein Mardan, revealed today, Sunday, the features of the five-year plan to revive Iraqi agriculture.
Mardan told Al-Maalouma, “Agriculture is still the source of livelihood for 50% of the workforce in the governorates, despite the challenges it faces, and it is an important sector that constitutes a vital path for recovery and mobilizing the rest of the other sectors.”
He added, "The Agriculture Committee presented a vision within a plan extending for the next 5 years to the Prime Minister to save it, which includes important points and dimensions, including the rapid transition to modern irrigation, the lining of rivers, and the adoption of a strategy for constructing water harvesting dams in the eastern and northern regions of the country in addition to some southern regions."
He pointed out that "the plan comes within the framework of a comprehensive vision for the agricultural file, with the aim of moving to the stage of sufficiency, reducing imports as much as possible, and investing the capabilities we have, especially fertile lands and groundwater, in expanding the dimensions of production."
Agriculture in Iraq has suffered from complex challenges in recent years due to drought and lack of support for farmers. Ended 25 F
