BAGHDAD (Iba) .. Vice President of the Iraqi Federation of Football Khaliq Massoud The International Federation (FIFA) decided Thursday to lift the ban that was imposed on holding matches in Iraq, which would allow international matches in Baghdad for the first time since the U.S. invasion and occupation.

Masood said that FIFA issued his decision after a meeting today in Switzerland, adding that the Iraqi team will play a friendly match against the Syrian team next Tuesday in the city of Erbil.

The news agency Agence France Presse Masood as saying "We have received a preliminary notice of the International Federation stating that it allowed a partial lifting of the ban."

"We hope that the Union lift the ban entirely in the future."

That game was stopped for ten minutes after a power outage and disruption flood lights, and the number of attendees for the capacity of the stadium.

The Iraqi team now engaged in friendly matches in Qatar, but returned this month to conduct training in Baghdad for the first time since the 2003 invasion. (End
