"It was one of those games where every time they did get a chance, it seemed to end up in the back of our net. ... A little bit of resiliency for us. We'll take a good comeback. I thought when it counted, everybody stepped up." - Barry Trotz

After a wild regulation that saw the Caps rally from a 4-2 deficit, and had both teams exchange goal after goal in a barn burner third, Alex Ovechkin put the game away in OT to give the Caps a 6-5 win over the red-hot Leafs.

Washington was down 4-2 at the end of the second. The Maple Leafs had already chased last years Vezina winner, Braden Holtby, from the crease, and it looked like they had control of the game up to that point.

The Capitals rallied back in the third to tie the game at 4 with goals from Kuznetsov and Orlov, but the Leafs Mitch Marner scored again to put the Leafs back on top by one. Washington fought back again, however, with a John Carlson blast to tie the game at 5.

Alex Ovechkin needed just 22 seconds in overtime to creep closer to his 1,000th career NHL point.

Washington is now 10-2-1 against the Atlantic Division this season and are now on a three game win streak.

Evgeny Kuznetsov had a goal and three assists tonight in what hopes to be a mid-season awakening for him. He has struggled this season to find the back of the net and has oftentimes over-passed in an attempt to make the "perfect play". In what is a contract year for the young center, Kuznetsov is well off his 77-point pace from last season.

For Alex Ovechkin, it was another milestone night as he tied Jaromir Jagr for the most overtime goals in league history with 19.

Ovechkin is also just 5 points from reaching 1,000.

The goal was his 543rd to go along with 452 career assists.

The Caps are up against the NHL's hottest team on Friday as they host the Columbus Blue Jackets.
