GOP Rep. Jason Chaffetz Will Not Run for Re-Election in 2018

Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has announced that he will not seek re-election for his seat in 2018.
The Utah Republican representative has been a major figure in Congress for years, particularly noteworthy for his investigations into Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election. Chaffetz has drawn criticism recently due to several indications that he wouldn’t do as much to scrutinize the actions of President Donald Trump.
Initial reports on Chaffetz’s future were confirmed after he posted a statement on his Facebook page.
Chaffetz also said in his statement that might run for public office again someday, even if it won’t be as early as 2018. If Chaffetz does pursue a new political career again, the 2020 race for the next governor of Utah is one possibility. (HOPE HE RUNS AND WINS.)“For those that would speculate otherwise, let me be clear that I have no ulterior motives. I am healthy. I am confident I would continue to be re-elected by large margins. I have the full support of Speaker Ryan to continue as Chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. That said, I have made a personal decision to return to the private sector.”
