Green economy is a successful way to achieve sustainable development

    27/8/2017 12:00 am

    Baghdad / Emad Al-Amara The
world has been following well-planned trends to achieve development, including the green economy, which is the most effective way to achieve the developmental goals of many countries, including developing countries that are still struggling with poverty and which are struggling to meet the basic needs of their citizens.
Today, thinkers of development advise developing countries to adopt the green economy model
. "The green economy program is a series of tools and tools available to policymakers, ranging from tax policies, removing harmful forms of subsidies to standards, laws, skills development, institution building and knowledge development, capacity building for data collection and dissemination, and better planning. And governance.
"This package of policies must be set up in developing economies, such as the Iraqi economy, which suffers from imbalance in the structure and weakness of fiscal policies, the dominance of support decisions harmful to the environment, and the depleted consumption patterns of resources.
"The region is experiencing crises related to water, food security and unemployment, which have prevented the achievement of safe and acceptable living standards," he said
    .
He added that the most important challenges in recent years are climate change, the rule of drought, declining water resources and declining food production. The number of Arab countries in the ESCWA region that is below the water poverty line is about 11 out of a total of 14 in the region, of which 6 are suffering from severe water scarcity and food security.
The green economy, as defined by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), is an economy that allows for improved human well-being and long-term inequality, without future generations being exposed to a scarcity of critical resources
    .
A number of Arab countries have implemented green economy activities and have achieved advanced results in improving water use efficiency and reducing energy consumption. The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain have adopted the measurement of computer water usage and the distribution of water saving devices free of charge. Based on renewable energy using solar energy or wind to generate energy to preserve the environment, including the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Qatar and Kuwait relying on sources of renewable energies, despite the availability of traditional methods.
The adoption of clean energy is a key to implementing green economy programs and achieving sustainable development to ensure the rights of generations. The challenges of achieving food security, providing food and maintaining a clean environment require the rationalization of traditional energy use and reliance on renewable and clean sources of energy, Especially those related to solar energy, wind power and waste recycling, all these sources can be used as alternatives to conventional energy.
The International Labor Organization (ILO) has identified new ways to generate green jobs, including the creation of new jobs or the replacement of jobs Others through the transition from fossil economy to green economy
    .
Al-Rawi concluded by referring to the importance of shifting from private transport to mass transportation to reduce the dependence of traditional energy methods through the adoption of electric trains or metro, relying on rail transport instead of trucks, as well as shifting from landfilling to recycling and benefiting from generating productive capacities.
