    [ltr]DAMASCUS (Reuters) - Syria's Democratic Forces announced on Sunday the start of the "final phase" of the battle of Raqqa, after a number of foreign supporters from the former stronghold of the organization left Syria under an agreement.[/ltr]
    [ltr]"We are now in the final stage of the battle of Raqqa," said the spokeswoman for the "Euphrates" campaign, Jihan Sheikh Ahmed, in a press statement today (October 15, 2017).[/ltr]
    [ltr]The attack comes after a compromise agreement was reached by the Civil Council, which includes representatives of the province's most prominent tribes, to evacuate elements of the organization from the city.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Under the agreement, a "section of foreign elements" was issued on Saturday night, according to the official of the Civil Council, Omar Alloush, without being able to determine the number or destination to which they were transferred. But they are likely to have gone to the eastern province of Deir al-Zour, where the organization still controls about 50 percent.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Syria's democratic forces, supported by the Washington-led international coalition, have been battling for more than four months to oust a militant organization from Raqqa, which now controls only 10 percent.[/ltr]
