The new feature will not benefit those who write in Japanese, Chinese and Korean, as these languages provide many information in one letter compared to many other languages.
The announcement came after tests conducted by the site on a small group of Twitter users since September in response to criticism about the ability to express views in light of the limited number of characters allowed.
This change is part of TUTER's plan to attract more users and promote the site.
During the test, only 5 percent of Twitter users wrote more than 140 letters and wrote only 2 percent of users' tweets exceeding 190 characters, according to the site.
Twitter said those who wrote long tweets had more followers and more people interacting with them and spent more time on the site.
"During the first few days of the test, many people wrote a maximum of 280 characters, because this feature is new, but the situation has changed," wrote Eliza Rosen, Totter's production manager.
According to Twitter, 9 percent of English-language tweets use the maximum number of characters allowed.
"Increasing the number of tweets on Twitter should not affect the experience on the site," Rosen said.
When he announced these changes, many criticized the decision, explaining that they would prefer to include changes to reduce hate crimes and add tweaking.
It employs about 330 million people, compared to more than 2 billion users on Facebook
