Israel's foreign intelligence chief Yoshi Cohen said Wednesday that his country had eyes and ears in Iran, saying the economic crisis had prompted the Iranian people to demonstrate against the authorities.
Cohen said in a speech at the Israeli Ministry of Economy that his country has "eyes and ears" in Iran, as he put it.
"The Iranian economy grew by 6.5 per cent in 2017, and estimates show growth of 4 to 5 per cent in 2018 and 2019," he said.
"This growth is not reflected on the Iranian people, which led to the exit of demonstrators to the streets," he said.
"We have eyes, ears and more in Iran," Cohen said.
Since last Thursday, some Iranian cities have been protesting against the government of the Islamic Republic and the religious elite, corruption and the deteriorating economic situation in the country, where demonstrators have raised slogans against the government and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
