The third official in the US Department of Justice, Rachel Brand, resigned from office nine months after taking office, the ministry said Friday in a statement.
"I know that everyone in the ministry will miss her, but we congratulate her on this new opportunity in the private sector," the ministry's statement quoted Justice Minister Geoff Sessions as saying.
Before the ministry statement, the New York Times reported that Brand had resigned, and that it would work in the private sector.
Brand's resignation comes in the wake of criticism by US President Donald Trump and Republican parliamentarians for special investigator Robert Mueller, who is investigating possible complicity between the tramp campaign and Russia in the 2016 presidential election.
Democratic opposition officials have warned Trump against dismissing key officials in the investigation into Russian intervention in the US presidential election.
