    [ltr]US authorities have asked Hawaiian residents to leave their homes after the eruption of the Kelawa volcano on Thursday following a series of tremors.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The US Civil Defense Department wrote to Facebook on Friday that "vapors and fumes emanated from a crack in the Mohalla Street area," while a local official said the population of the evacuated area was close to 10,000.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Officials from the US Geological Survey of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory went to the scene to assess the eruption, which began around 4:45 pm (2:45 GMT).[/ltr]
    [ltr]At 10:30 am, a tremor measuring 5 on the Richter scale south of the Bo-woo volcano led to a rocky collapse and a possible rupture of a volcano's crater.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The authorities said the risks associated with ongoing eruptions could include the emission of a "deadly concentration of sulfur dioxide" in the region, as well as methane explosions, which could throw huge rocks and debris at nearby forest areas.[/ltr]
    [ltr]State Governor David Aig said he had mobilized the National Guard of the archipelago and asked residents to abide by CIVA warnings.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The authorities have opened a local center to receive people at risk, according to the Emergency Management Authority of Hawaii.[/ltr]
    [ltr]This comes after registering 250 light earthquakes during the past 24 hours, noting similar activity and the spread of underground magma before a previous volcanic eruption in the region.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The Civil Defense Commission called on the population to prepare for the possibility of a new lava flow at any time, planning for the worst scenarios by reviewing the state of emergency.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Earlier, scientists warned of the near-eruption of the Kelawa volcano, one of five volcanoes in the largest United States island, which has become more active in the recent period, amid the rise of earthquakes on record and the collapse of the crater.[/ltr]
