    The US Treasury Department on Thursday imposed new sanctions targeting a network of individuals and entities funding Hezbollah in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. 
    The sanctions were aimed at "disrupting Hezbollah's global business empire in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and uncovering Hezbollah's terrorist networks," the ministry said in a statement. 
    According to the new sanctions, the ministry has put Hezbollah financier Mohammed Ibrahim Bazzi, Hezbollah's Hezbollah representative in Iran, Ali Safi al-Din on the global terrorism list, and five companies based in Europe, West Africa and the Middle East for being owned or managed by Bazzi and another person on the list.
    The companies are Global Trading Group NV, a Belgian energy company. And Euro African Group, a Gambia-based oil company. Premier Investment Group SAL Offshore, Car Asset Services Services Sal Offshore, Africa Middle East Investment Holding and the last three companies headquartered in Lebanon.
    Treasury Secretary Stephen Manuchen said in the statement that Hezbollah was using funders like Bazzi, who has ties to drug dealers and money laundering operations to finance terrorism.
    He added that these actions highlight "the double behavior of Hezbollah and its Iranian supporters."
    "The brutality and malice of Hezbollah's most prominent financiers can not be tolerated," he said, vowing that the US administration would "uncover and disrupt the networks of Hezbollah and Iran at every turn, including those with ties to the central bank."
    Mohammed Bazzi
    Hizballah has funded and financed millions of dollars for several years through its financial activities in several countries in West Africa, Belgium, Lebanon and Iraq. It has ties to other party financiers who have previously been on the global terrorism list. It also has links with Ayman Jomaa, And the drug trade.
    Bazzi was close to the former leader of the Gambia, Yahya Jammeh, whom the ministry said was involved in corruption.
    Abdullah Safi al-Din
    Is Hezbollah's representative in Iran and close to Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, a channel of communication between Iran and the party, and mediator between the two on financial issues.
    He worked with Bazzi to restore political relations between the Gambia and Iran after their differences broke out. He had previously been accused of helping facilitate the access of Iranian officials to the LCB, which was involved in international money laundering.
    The two worked with the Central Bank of Iran (formerly accused by the Foreign Assets Control Office of the ministry of providing financial support to the Quds Force) to expand access to banks between Iran and Lebanon.
    The new measures come in the wake of President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the nuclear deal signed between Iran and the Group of Six in 2015 and re-impose sanctions on Tehran, the ministry said.
    Bazzi is one of the founders of Global Trading Group and the Managing Director of the Belgian-based company. It also has offices in Adol Afrika, and is also the CEO and Managing Director and the largest shareholder in the Pan-African oil company, Euro-Africa Group (EAGL). Gambia, as well as the three Lebanese companies referred to earlier.
    On Wednesday, the ministry placed Hezbollah leaders on the terror list and imposed sanctions on them. They were the secretary-general of the party, in addition to the party's deputy secretary-general Naeem Kassem, political advisor to the secretary-general Hussein Khalil, .
