Trump: Sanctions on North Korea will continue but war games will end

    2018/06/12 12:32

(Encyclopedia of this Day News | Iraq News ) - Direct US President Donald Trump said that US sanctions against North Korea will continue despite the signing of a new agreement between the two countries.

On Tuesday, Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un signed a comprehensive document aimed at denuclearization on the sidelines of a historic meeting in Singapore.

The document included several items, including the pursuit of a new relationship according to the desire of the peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity, and the contribution of the United States and North Korea in joint efforts to build a lasting and stable peace system on the Korean Peninsula

Trump said he was confident his North Korean counterpart would live up to the agreement, but "in the meantime, the sanctions will remain in force."

The US president said he favored a long-term plan to reduce the number of US troops in South Korea, stressing that his country would stop the war games.

"We will stop the war games that will save us a lot of money," he said.

Trump explained that the process of nuclear disarmament can be confirmed by US international experts.

Trump announced his intention to stop military exercises with South Korea

    2018/06/12 12:10

(Encyclopedia of this day , news | News Iraq ) -

US President Donald Trump announced today that he will stop military exercises on the Korean Peninsula after his summit with the North Korean leader on Tuesday in Singapore.

"We will stop the exercises, which will save us a lot of money," Trump told reporters, adding that he wanted to withdraw his troops from the south "at some point."

Washington is waging annual war games with its ally Seoul, which Pyongyang sees as training in its invasion.

US President Kim Jong-un has made "a firm commitment" to denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, but sanctions against Pyongyang will remain in force, the president said.

In statements after his historic summit with Kim in Singapore, Trump said the two leaders "are ready to start a new history and write a new chapter between the two countries."

"Kim reiterated his firm commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula," he told a news conference.

He said Kim had "an unprecedented opportunity" and that Kim had told him that North Korea's missile test site "would be destroyed very soon."

Trump said he would stop the war games in apparent reference to unspecified military exercises.

He said he had briefly discussed with Kim on the human rights issue.
