The Implementation Committee of the South Korean Summit Declaration on Saturday decided to push for disarmament from the joint security zone in the truce village.
North Korea's spokesman Kim Ouyi Kyum told a press conference that Pyongyang had proposed during the military talks the idea of disarmament from the joint security zone as a pilot project towards peace in the demilitarized zone.
The Government would consult with the United Nations Command, which currently had operational control over the area, on specific measures towards that goal.
The South Korean committee said it would visit Pyongyang in North Korea on June 20 to discuss joint events and civil exchange.
The committee said it was difficult to hold joint events to mark the anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration, but it is working to hold the meeting of the heads of the committees of the two Koreas and committees outside Korea to implement the June 15 Joint Declaration in Pyongyang.
The meeting is expected to be held from June 20 to 23 in Pyongyang, with the participation of representatives of various sectors from both Koreas and outside Korea to discuss the implementation of the Panmunjom Declaration, holding joint events and civil exchange.
