US President Donald Trump discussed the Syrian issue in a private interview with King Abdullah of Jordan at the White House this week.
Diplomatic sources familiar with the meeting gathered the two leaders in a press statement that "Trump re-proposed the withdrawal of US troops from Syria, and dealt with the Syrian file in depth, as Trump expressed confidence in the possibility of reaching an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the so-called "Buffer zones" in southwestern Syria, which would allow an American withdrawal at the earliest opportunity.
According to the sources, the Trump plan will allow the Russians to help Syrian President Bashar al-Assad regain land along the southern border with Jordan, where the coalition forces are witnessing continued opposition by "unknown hostile forces" in the past few days despite the ceasefire agreement there.
The sources pointed out that Trump, in turn, expected the Russians to establish a buffer zone in southwestern Syria and prevent Iranian forces from reaching them, pointing out that [Iran's dimensions] is the core of Trump plan to withdraw from Syria.
