"The strategic issue of Iran, its nuclear program, its proliferation and support for terrorism in the Middle East is the issue," White House national security adviser John Bolton said.

Bolton said in an interview with CBS that the meeting, which will bring together US Presidents Donald Trump and Russian Vladimir Putin, will focus on the Iranian issue.

"I think President Trump's decision to withdraw from Iran's deceptive nuclear deal and re-impose sanctions will start putting more pressure on Iran and will have an impact on its decision not only on the nuclear issue but on its efforts to expand Iranian influence in all Across the region ".
Bolton said negotiations between his country and Russia were more likely to help get Iranian militias out of Syria. "It will be an important step forward," Bolton said.

Putin and Trump are expected to meet mid-month in the Finnish capital, and media reports suggest the two sides will hold a deal on Syria that could include a possible US withdrawal from the south-eastern al-Tanf base.
