Likely high demand for dairy products in Iraq

The dairy sector in Iraq has profitable prospects for global actors and investors as a result of the end of the war, the rising population, and new economic reforms.
GDP and disposable income for household spending in Iraq are expected to increase by 6 per cent of the compound annual growth rate between 2018 and 2025.
The high proportion of youth is one of the economic forces of the country. With 60 per cent of the population under the age of 25, Iraq has a unique ability to enhance the youth's ability to prosper despite the many challenges it faces.
A recent Frost & Sullivan study entitled "The Dairy Concept and Opportunities in Iraq" predicted that demand for dairy products in Iraq could grow by 8 percent of the compound annual growth rate by 2025.
Commenting on the subject, Mr. Ali Mirmoud, Senior Advisor and Business Development Manager at Frost & Sullivan said: "The demand for dairy products in the post-war era is expected to grow thanks to support plans for major international organizations such as UNDP, The United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the United States Agency for International Development, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Health Organization.
Average per capita consumption of dairy products is expected to rise from 52 liters to more than 60 liters over the next three years and then to more than 90 liters by 2025. "
Iraq has significant business opportunities for market participants, particularly global players, through advanced technological updates that will help expand the sector and improve productivity.
In addition, local companies are seeking partnerships with their global counterparts to take advantage of best practices in the dairy sector.
"The dairy market in Iraq is opening up more than 4 billion investment opportunities in livestock farms and plant management to improve production capacity, logistics in the storage and distribution sector, utilities and transport facilities, technological updates and retail."
The Iraqi dairy market relies heavily on imports, with local manufacturers meeting less than 10 per cent of domestic demand. In addition, Iraq is also one of the largest importers of powdered milk in the Middle East for the production of reconstituted milk. Dry milk accounts for 75 per cent of the country's market.
The high population and urbanization, coupled with the limited best practices of local actors, make the Iraqi dairy sector a thriving opportunity for global players and investors.
Frost & Sullivan recently released an intellectual leadership document entitled "Growth Opportunities for the Canned Food Market in Iraq", highlighting the canned food market in Iraq, market stimuli, opportunities for global players, challenges, government initiatives in developing this sector, etc. More.
