Washington sells arms to two Gulf states

[rtl]The US State Department has approved a possible $ 6 billion arms sales to Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates in three separate deals, the Pentagon said after reporting to Congress.[/rtl]
[rtl]The United States relies on allies in the region, including Saudi Arabia, to counter Iranian influence. The United States went ahead in April in part of a deal to sell the missile defense system to Saudi Arabia, according to Reuters.[/rtl]
[rtl]Under a notice sent to Congress, it would be possible for Bahrain to purchase various systems of Patriot missiles and related support equipment at an estimated cost of $ 2.48 billion.[/rtl]
[rtl]The potential Bahraini deal includes 36 Patriot MIM-104 GMT, an upgraded version that can shoot down aircraft and cruise missiles.[/rtl]
[rtl]In a separate notification sent to Congress by the State Department, approval was also given to Bahrain to purchase various weapons to support its fleet of F-16 Block 70 and F-16V aircraft at an estimated cost of $ 750 million.[/rtl]
[rtl]The deal includes 32 AMS-9X, 20 AGM-84, Block 2 Harpoon, 100 GBU-39s, 250-pound bomblets and other ammunition.[/rtl]
[rtl]In a third notification to the Foreign Ministry, the UAE was given a $ 2.73 billion deal to buy Patriot missiles and associated equipment including 452 (BAC-3) and MSSI and related equipment.[/rtl]
[rtl]The Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of the possible deal. The process informs Congress that a sale has been approved for a foreign country but that does not indicate that a contract has been signed or the negotiations concluded.[/rtl]
