    US Secretary of Homeland Security John Bolton said the United States would send an aircraft carrier group and a force of bombers to the Middle East to send a clear message to Iran that any attack on Washington's interests or allies would be "very strong . "
    In a press statement on Sunday, May 5, 2019, Bolton said the decision to send the US aircraft carrier to the Middle East was a response to a number of alarming signs and alarms.
    "The United States is not seeking a war with the Iranian regime, but we are fully prepared to respond to any attack from agents, the IRGC or the regular Iranian forces," he said.
    The commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Qassim Soleimani, reported in a tweet on Twitter on Saturday that US intelligence has informed President Donald Trump not to engage with Iran, ruling out Washington's war on his country.

    US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Sunday that his country would hold the Iranians accountable in the event of attacks on US interests. 
    Bombay's statement follows the announcement by the United States to send an aircraft carrier group and a force of bombers to the Middle East "to send a clear message to Iran that any attack on the interests of the United States or its allies will be met with great force." 
    John Bolton, the US national security adviser, said the decision was made "in response to a number of alarming signs and alarms." 
    "The United States is not seeking a war with the Iranian regime, but we are fully prepared to respond to any attack, either from agents or from the Revolutionary Guards or the regular Iranian forces."
    "It's something we've been working on for a short while," Pompeo told reporters. "Iran will take direct responsibility for an attack on US interests," the Washington Post reported.
    "We will hold the Iranians accountable if there are attacks on our interests, by them or by their agents or by Hezbollah," he said.
    Asked whether the United States had directly communicated the message to the Iranian regime, Pompeo replied that "the Iranians understand exactly what our view is about the threats they pose to the interests of the United States around the world ... I can not say anything more about it" .
    The decision came days after Washington announced not to renew exemptions granted to countries that buy Iranian crude oil, as part of the tightening of US sanctions on Tehran, because of its nuclear program and interference in the affairs of the countries of the region.
    The six-month deadline, granted by the United States to eight countries, mostly in Asia, ended in order to stop importing Iranian oil, whose revenues Tehran is using to finance destabilizing activities in the region.
