Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Oil and Energy Mahmoud Al-Zajrawi warned, on Monday, against the collapse of the Iraqi economy at any moment amid the drop in global oil prices, which threatens a disaster that the state may not be able to pay the salaries of employees.
Al-Zajrawi said in a statement to "Al-Maalouma", that "all strategic projects are threatened by low oil prices, which threatens an unprecedented catastrophe that will be resolved in the country."
He added that "the drop in oil prices put the government in a great dilemma that it is difficult for anyone to recover except to stop all strategic projects and transfer the funds allocated to them as salaries for employees."
Al-Zagrawi pointed out that "the country is facing an unprecedented financial, economic and social impasse that threatens the Iraqis in their livelihoods and jobs," noting that "hundreds of strategic projects are at risk of disappearing if the global oil price continues to decline for the coming months."
