The Hanta virus is rarely transmitted from person to person
While the world is busy fighting the emerging corona virus, another virus has started spreading to social networks, causing panic, after a man was infected with it in Yunnan Province in southwest China, according to Newsweek .
It was revealed, after the death of the man, that he was infected with the "Hanta" virus, which is rarely transmitted from one person to another, while it was not known whether the deceased transmitted the disease to others.
The American magazine Newsweek reported that the Chinese authorities conducted tests for 32 people who were on the bus that transported the man before his death, and the results of these tests have not been published yet.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States, "Hanta" virus infection is transmitted through rodents, adding that catching it may lead to disease in humans.
The agency pointed out that each strain of the "Hanta" virus is associated with a type of rodent, and the virus can be transmitted in the air, when the virus particles are transported from animal urine, feces, saliva, and infects the individual.
In rare cases, a person can become infected with the "Hanta" virus if the infected animal bites it, and infection can be caught if the person touches his nose or mouth after dealing with a surface contaminated with urine, drops, or saliva of the virus carrier, or even by eating contaminated food.
The "Hanta" virus causes diseases known as "Hanta's Pulmonary Syndrome" and "Haemorrhagic Fever with Nephrotic Syndrome."
The person may also feel headache, chills and dizziness with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
These symptoms appear between 4 to 10 days after the first stage of the disease, which includes coughing and shortness of breath. The mortality rate for those infected with the virus is 38 percent of the infection count.
The symptoms of "hemorrhagic fever with nephrotic syndrome" include a fever with nephrotic syndrome, which includes a group of diseases affecting the kidneys.
These signs usually appear between one to two weeks after exposure to the virus, and in rare cases these symptoms appear after eight weeks.
The patient may feel hemorrhagic fever, severe headache, abdominal pain, fever, chills, nausea, blurred vision, in addition to facial redness or inflammation and red eyes.
The syndrome may subsequently lead to low blood pressure, blood vessel leaks, and severe kidney failure, and recovery from this virus may take weeks or months. The death rate from this virus ranges from 1 to 15 percent.
According to prevention centers, there is no treatment, vaccine or drug for Hanta virus infection. However, in early-stage infected individuals, symptoms of the disease can be slowed if they receive intensive health care.
