The World - Today's IssueThe crisis of assigning the Prime Minister in Iraq is worsening day by day and taking on dangerous dimensions, with the escalation of controversy and rejection of the mechanism for assigning Adnan Al-Zrafi to form a government by President Barham Saleh.
The largest bloc of the Al-Fateh coalition, which the Legitimacy gives in nominating the candidate, still categorically rejects the assignment of Al-Zrafi and stands beside it are important blocs such as the State of Law coalition headed by Nuri al-Maliki and the national contract and the national approach as well as the stream of wisdom, which in turn strongly criticized the mechanism adopted by Barham Saleh in assigning Al-Zarfi It was considered a breach of the constitution and the political tradition that gives the Shi'a house freedom to choose a prime minister.
Even the position of the Alliance of Saeron is still foggy and has laid down conditions for al-Zarfi to pass under the parliament dome. While Al-Zarfi’s victory coalition resolved his position with the latter’s support.
As for the Kurdish component, as is customary, it awaits hearing one voice from the Shiite house, and for this reason it is unlikely that it will support a dialectical figure and ignore an important category of the Shiite component, especially since this group represents those who stood side by side with the Peshmerga in the fight against ISIS.
For these reasons, the discussion seemed to revolve around the nomination of an alternative to Zarfi, and this is what the Shiite blocs are doing these days, as they nominated several names to President Barham Salih, including university presidents and academics.
With the intensification of the crisis, the head of the Sadqoun bloc, Adnan Fayhan, threatened that the opposing team would work to mobilize the parliamentary votes to dismiss Barham Saleh in the event he did not retreat from the assignment of Al-Zarfi.
Al-Fateh MP Hussein Al-Zuhairi also considered that his alliance sees Al-Zarfi as a dialectical figure that does not correspond to what he wanted and the authority and is rejected by the people and the demonstrations and dual nationalities.
What arouses the apprehension and frustration of the political forces opposing the assignment of Al-Zarfi, the latter's movements at the local and international levels, his meetings and his positions, in which these powers see an attempt by Al-Zarfi to impose the reality and influence the political decision before he obtains the confidence of Parliament, and from these stations his meeting with the ambassadors of the permanent members of the Security Council.
These forces also have concerns about maintaining American forces and expanding their presence on Iraqi soil, despite the parliament’s decision and the popular demand to end its presence.
In front of this scene, three scenarios, namely that the Shiite blocs offer an alternative to Zarfi or go to vote under the parliament dome to determine the fate of the prime minister in charge of granting confidence or not.
