    {International: Al Furat News} The deputies of the Islamic Shura Council in Iran {Parliament} voted to change the Iranian currency from the riyal to the toman, with the value of the toman being 10,000 riyals.
    In the session held today, Monday, to discuss amending the monetary and banking law, the Islamic Shura Council voted to amend the first article of this law issued on July 8, 1972 so that (the toman is the Iranian currency unit and each toman = 10,000 riyals or the equivalent of 100 qiran).
    The annexes to the amended law also included the subject of the value of the toman versus foreign currencies, and the determination of the price of these currencies by the central bank according to the hard currency system, taking into account the country's balances of this currency, and the government's obligations towards the International Monetary Fund.
    It was also decided that the central bank will prepare, within three months, the executive regulations for this law and present them to the Council of Ministers for approval and start implementing them.

    Official Iranian media reported today, Monday, that the Iranian parliament approved a bill allowing the government to delete four zeros from the riyal, following a sharp decline in the value of the currency due to US sanctions.
    Under the project, Iran's national currency will change from one riyal to a toman, which is equal to ten thousand riyals.
    "The law to delete four zeros from the national currency was approved by lawmakers," said the Iranian Student News Agency. The bill needs approval from a panel of clerics that examines the laws before they become effective.
    State television said that it would take two years for the Iranian Central Bank to "pave the way for the currency to be converted to Toman."
    The idea of ​​eliminating four zeros has been circulating since 2008, but it became more urgent after 2018, when US President Donald Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear agreement and reimposed sanctions, as the riyal lost more than 60 percent of its value.
    According to foreign exchange sites, the Iranian currency recorded about 156,000 riyals per dollar in the informal market today.
    Weak currency and high inflation has fueled sporadic protests since late 2017.

    And it will  still be dropping like a stone... I wonder what they will call it next time when they convert it , "toman to toenails"?
