Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi said today, Wednesday, that recalling the Anfal crimes is an incentive for serious work without the return of dictatorship.
The Anfal operations led to the destruction of more than 5 thousand villages and the death of more than 182 thousand innocent Kurdish civilians, including thousands of women and children who were buried alive in the deserts of southern Iraq in mass graves.
In the stages of the Anfal campaigns, all kinds of internationally banned weapons, especially chemical weapons such as mustard, cyanide, nerve gas and phosphorous, were used.
Al-Kazemi said in a statement, “Today is the 33rd anniversary of the start of the Anfal crime campaigns committed by the former regime against our Kurdish people, which led to tens of thousands of victims and the disappearance of large numbers of them in its dark prisons, and its destruction of hundreds of Kurdish villages and the displacement of their people, in a painful tragedy that brings humanity to life. “.
Adding, "Remembering with pain and sorrow this painful occasion, we stand with reverence and glory for the martyrs and victims of this crime, and that remembering it annually is a motivation for all governments to work hard without the return of dictatorship in any of its forms, and reject everything that would revive the policies of discrimination, exclusion and marginalization."
Al-Kazemi added, "The evocation of the brutal crimes committed against the Iraqi people confirms that the democratic, reform and peaceful coexistence approach is the way to a bright Iraq dominated by peace, love and tolerance, and that the country's unity, dignity of life and justice is the goal and basis that makes Iraq a secure, stable country, strong with its people and its land." .
He concluded his statement by saying, "Glory and eminence to those who ascended as martyrs of our people in all the scenes of their struggle against dictatorship."
